Replacing exhaust fan

So I'm getting around to replacing the exhaust fan in the master bathroom, but I've hit a snag. The place where the wires come into the new fan are on the "back" of the unit vs on the side on our old one and the wires are short and I cant really turn the fan around because of exhaust location. Is there a safe way, correct way to shield the ground that's the insulation has been cut back too far on?

See how much the wires are out and not protected by the jacket, esp a completely exposed ground.

Any saving these wires?

I can run the exhaust fan wires out of the hole and connect wires outside of the unit, but I'd still have exposed ground.

I am in Alabama.

All electrical connections need to be done in a box, or in the unit. You can't do it by code otherwise.

Just get a junction box and a couple of feet of wire to extend the current wires.

Will do. Easy.

Thank you!

I installed a fan/light like that a couple of weeks ago, good luck trying to install a clamp in that hole!:scared:
I ended up making the hole bigger with my knock out punch so I could install a romex clamp on it.
Most of those older exhuast fans take the same motor.
Its usually easier/cheaper most of the time to just buy a cheap 70cfm exhuast fan at the box store, then just pull the motor and blade out of it and install it back into the old fan.;)

You could use a plastic snap in bushing in the hole, just put a staple on the cable close by.
