Replacing Garage Door Side Jambs Without Removing Door?

I need to replace the 60 year old side jambs with 2x6’s. These are the jambs I’m talking about https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/framing-question-for-garage-door-track-mounting.367805/ . I’m trying to do it without removing the door… The torsion springs are off at the moment so the door is “safe”, except for being heavy. I figured that maybe I could take the hinges out on one side, remove the wheels, remove the track, and I’d have access to remove the jamb. The door would still be held on by the other track and garage door opener. So it can’t fall down, in theory.

I appreciate the feedback. Reason I've been wanting to keep the door up is so that I can work on things slowly, not have to worry about getting the door back up in the evening if I don't finish the project. It's a 230lb 4 panel 16' door. Not too easy to dismantle without help.

Just an update on this project...

I did end up leaving the door in place when changing the jambs. It worked really well. I did one side at a time. I did end up disconnecting the garage door opener, and used a strap the middle of the door to hold the door in place. Most importantly for anyone thinking about doing this, springs must be unwound before removing a single bolt on a garage door. 10/10. First jamb (right side) took about 2 hours, mostly to get the measurements right, and the second jamb (left side) took about 30 minutes to do.

Nice Job!
More than one way to do anything!
Although you did eliminate some work by leaving it up it also can make it a little tighter to work and do. Yeah absolutely unwind the Springs!!!
