Replacing LED can light with 8ft LED linear light

Will probably have an electrician handle this, but curious if the whole LED recessed can needs to be removed. The opening of the can light is 5 inches and the width of the linear led light is about 2 inches. Seems like I would need to get some drywall repair done for it to look proper. Or I could get 4 ft LED light that uses 4 LED tubes(14 inches wide) so no drywall repair would be needed. Just looking for insight from people that have done something similar in the past.

The 4' unit in your link is an integrated light. It does not use 4 individual LED tubes. Also Commercial Electric is the HD house brand, there are other higher quality brands out there.

If you want an integrated light and need to cover some questionable drywall repair, try these. I have 8 and they work well. There are several versions available so shop carefully.

Thanks Dave. The home is new, but with very limited lighting. Any other suggestions are always appreciated. I am willing to go in any direction to do it the right way.

I can't recommend Commercial Electric lights. I know it's just a HD brand, but they don't do any vetting of their suppliers. My friends and I have thrown out so many commercial electric fixtures after just a few years.

I would recommend some 4-foot "bulb holder" fixtures that don't have ballasts and put LED bulbs in them, or an integrated fixture from a better brand - like Lithonia.

Beautiful garage. Here was my shop lighting journey. I hope it helps. I think the panels would look great in your garage.
