.
what are some ways to lower material costs
when replacing an 8 foot picket fence that is falling over
from rotted 4 x 4 posts and water damage .

looking for ideas to lower material costs and inventive ways to raise fence height to 10 feet .
not concerned with codes or wind issues because of location.
mostly concerned with ingenious and innovative new ideas for fence construction design and ways to lower materials cost

10' high is an issue for posts due to wind loading. It may also not be allowed by code.

All I can say is good fences that look good and last cost money.

Being creative and willing to work outside the usual parameters can result in cost savings as well as extended durability. A good substitute for wooden posts prone to rot is using steel posts set in concrete using various methods of fencing material fasteners. You may be able to reuse salvageable material from the old fence combined with a new skirting, top or bottom, in order to achieve the 10 foot height desired. The level of success depends much on the skill and experience of the builder. Material costs are a fixed component of any fence project, but knowing how to make the materials last is of ultimate importance.

i went to the box stores and looked for galvanized fence posts and none of the chain link fence posting are long enough.
i also looked at sono tube as a way to set posts and keep them out of the water
i looked at composite wood substitutes that look like fence pickets and none are longer than 5.75 feet tall .

i don't have any problems building the fence. i just wanted ideas and suggestions from others who have built fencing or seen great fence ideas which result in a solid finished long lasting product.
