I've just got a quick question. My dads been a mechanic for 35 years or so, and since i'm a starting millwright and he's started to pass down some of his tools since he's getting ready to retire he's given me a few snap on ratchets and was wondering will snap on replace an entire ratchet when they become 35 years worn? Or do they take trades on new ones, or is a repair kit all that's available.

Yes, but more recently there have been stories of them requiring proof of purchase, as technically the warranty only applies to the original purchaser.

All Snap-on ratchets are rebuildable. If a ratchet doesn't have replacement parts available, chances are it's a cheesy POS.

You wont need a receipt for getting a rebuild kit for a ratchet, I have gotten several and they never have asked.

If you want a new ratchet and not just a kit then they will ask questions.

I think that SO is going to get a lot of flak by requiring a rcpt for warrantee. Most

of the guys I know that buy off the trucks, internet, and brick and mortar retailers

keep the rcpt for as long as they keep the bag or box the tool came in. You can't

really tell me that someone who has delt with the same truck for years, knows the

driver on first name basis, will be denied service because they don't have a box full

of register tapes ? I can see dollars going to alternative tool sellers in the future if

this comes about. Must have a new bean counter...

I'm thinking if a guy is getting a high quality ratchet for free, the least he can do is spend the $10 for a kit.

They will rebuild it unless it is not rebuiladable or unless the parts are no longer available to rebuild it
I have never had this problem yet even with having ratchets rebuilt for my dad and that stuff was from the 50s
