Got a job to reproduce some old moulding for a church most was done on cnc except the blending of the corners in the triangles they went from cove to point,a 7/8 cove bit was used then a 60 degree bit for pointing I used a die grinder with a carbide oval bit to shape the transition. Gets mind numbing boring on a 170 feet of the stuff.

the material is Quarter sawn white oak.

I used air cylinders to clamp and index the pieces to my stops.

CNC makes so many things possible. Kinda makes you wonder how the originals were made. Not something that you could get a cutter made and shoot through a machine

I looked carefully at the originals the centers were done on a boring machine they may have had a cove cutter incorporated in the bit.

Most likely a template and cutter was used in the surrounding v carve design I did similar before cnc the triangle coves were pointed by hand I can see the marks.

The moulding dates back around 150 years, a good shop back then had some sophisticated tooling I have toured a few.
