Meant to write repainting garage floor! Darn spell check

Hey newbie here. Been lurking for a little just reading and hiding.

Just wanted to say hi

And ask a question?

I was just recently given some left over epoxy coat (clear top coat) from a buddy ( he ordered way to much) but anyways

I have a painted concrete garage floor already and it's in great shape no peeling or anything just painted a year ago with Bear concrete and garage 1 part epoxy paint. My question is... Can I just sand it down ( just scuff it up) not completely remove it? and put a primer and repaint then put Epoxy top coat over it?

Thanks for any help or comments thanks!

Just tried to clean the floor with some concrete degreaser and the paint just peeled up some spots need strapping but others don't.

The previous owner painted it before as we'll and just the coat of paint I put on peeled up. The paint I used was Bears concrete 1 part epoxy. So wasn't bonded properly.

So what I did was stopped and took out my electric disc sander and sanded a spot away from where I was degreasing and seemed to remove my paint and started to remove previous paint as we'll.

So my question's are...

Would sanding be my best bet?

If so should I remove all the paint or just my previous coat?

Also would it be better (easier) or necessary to diamond grind the floor or is that over kill?

Thanks for any help... Sorry for the long post!

If you will recoat with an epoxy it is imperative that you grind off all the material.
This grinding will prepare the floor for the new coating product.

Diamond Grinding.

So I have decided to grind the floor upswing the diamabrush attachment on a floor buffer.

I want to do it the right way. But have another question?

Do I need to remove the paint from the raised foundation around the garage?

Is that necessary or not?

If so how would I go about doing that?

You will need both types of Diamanabrush attachments. One to remove the old paint and the other to actually grind the floor. I don't think you will need to remove the paint from the foundation, unless you are planning to put epoxy on that area.

I'm planning on putting a two part epoxy paint down probably rust oleum epoxy shield. On the foundation two then left over epoxy coat clear on top of all.

Possible not no clear on foundation!
Haven't decided...

This is what my buddy did on a new concrete floor tho and worked fine...

And the guy at Home Depot said all I should need is the diamabrush prep tool to remove paint and it will be fine to re-coat.

Any other opinions?
