1- looking to see if it is possible to repurpose a wireless doorbell to be used as a garage door opener (hook up the receiver to the wall switch controlling the door opener)
2- if possible, how would it be done?
now, extra info: i'm not looking for anything security wise, just wanting something that people wouldn't think would be a door opener. and i currently have no garage door transmitters, so instead of paying the $60+ to get 2 transmitters, hoping i can get away with a $15 wireless doorbell with 2 buttons). i'm not looking for anything with range as my garage is behind the house that has privacy fence, so the button would be pushed as i pull in the driveway (maybe 50' street to garage, wireless receiver is midway between both), if possible, it would be great if the bell works as this could be a good way for my wife to know when i get home (push door bell, bell goes off and garage door opens).

You could use one if the doorbell receiver has a relay output. Most are just piezo chimes and won't be able to handle the current needed to run a relay for your opener's control circuit.

You'll likely have to get out of the vehicle and walk right up to the garage door before the unit recognizes the transmitter. These things have *very* short ranges.

What Vegaman said.
If the bell part has electro-mechanical bells it should work.
If it has the newer electronic “bells” probably not.
As for range, take it out and try it.

But if you want to save bucks, a garage sale opener will give you the parts you need.
Most of the ones I have used were replaced because the plastic gear wore out.
The electronics usually work OK.
