After decades of dried out caulk tubes, I finally hit on a near zero cost plug for partial tubes. In the past I’ve used wire nuts, duck tape, screws etc. this one is the best sealing by far. Just roll and force it in.

What the heck are you caulking that you cut the tip so that the hole is that big?

I cut mine so that the hole is about the size of a stripped #12 wire and just use duct tape to seal it back up

Flashing and crack repair need a larger bead.

This may be a record first post!

Gotta start somewhere!

I've been sponging info from this site for planning my garage build. Thought I'd start contributing even if it was useless.

I will give the earplug on the caulk tube a try though!

The best so far is my Filipino friend flying on a military MAC flight popped them in her mouth and started chewing on the pink ear plugs thinking it were bubblegum. As loud as it is in these C-130’s all 30 of us with our asses in those sling seats busted out laughing.

In the spring, the mason bees lay eggs in small holes which they then mud over. Any hoses outside, especially propane hoses dangling from cookers, get plugged with ear plugs. I usually cut them lengthwise first.

I use them on long drives and I don't want to waste time to stop and pee.

I bet you just got a little uncomfortable just thinking about that. I did.

I actually spiral blue painter's tape around the tip but do it so it gets bigger after the tip and then seal it off like a little bag. Then I pump some caulk and fill the bag. The caulk in the little bag stays a little pliable but mostly or completely dries out. Then when it's time to reuse I easily just twist it all off and the tip and it's contents are like new.

I haven't tried this yet, but synthetic wine corks drilled out with a 5/16 bit are supposed to work (and I have no trouble coming up with wine corks).

I would never put a wire nut on the end of my caulk. I don't even like to use condoms, not really sure how I feel about the earplugs. I think there is a fetish website that deals with inserting things into the tip of your caulk.

I poke my MIG wire through a used earplug, the plug sits after the feed rollers and before the liner. I wipes and dust of the wire and keeps the liner cleaner.

Cheers Andrew
