Thought you might be interested in an effective storage solution for metal and plastic stock parts. I came across on airline drink/food carts (the type that go up and down aisles). I put in the plywood shelves and voila, instant storage! Best part was that is had doors on both sides.

NOOOOOOOOOOO...I was just going to start buying a few of these online...and you just ruined it by telling all of GJ. Curse you.

You just have to find the right people and they will practically give them to you. I found multiple times airline parts through Craigslist. Those that were selling them had all worked at companies that scrapped airplanes. These carts were $60 for both. I got some first class seats for my office too:

Ha! I was just on a plane Sunday and was staring at the in-flight cart considering how it would work in the garage -- curse GarageJournal, I now spend my days wondering what I can repurpose for sturdy garage storage

That is a great find. They should be well made.

They are! They were sitting in this guy's backyard. They are made of aluminum and epoxy board. Basically nothing that would soak up spills and and can be steam cleaned.

I decided to paint these since getting the rest of the garage cabinets painted.

not here
I have at least 10 of those carts! I rebuilt a couple of them. I also have a super nice 1st Class Airline Seat here in garage! It was just reupholstered a month or so before the plane was taken out of service.

This is plane my seat is out of...

I have bucket loads of the original plastic tray's too. A few ultra hard to come by Aluminum ones. I think my favorite cart is the 3/4 length one. I have my 427 F100 Project parts in a few others. The neat thing is they have brakes that lock wheels from rotating or the wheel itself turning so the cart is locked from going any direction. I have 2 that are garbage carts also. Use the carts daily. Surprised so few have caught on. The basic cart with no drawers cost the airline a starter price of 1300.00 each.

Another neat feature if you have the proper drawers is they fit end to end 2 per shelf. This way you can store one thing on one end and something else on the other. I have a cart specifically for my HOLLEY parts. Carbs on one side and small parts on the other.

My 1st Class seat:

I like the idea of the trash bins too.
