Searching for some old info, deep in a basement, I found this forgotten tribute to real steel and American office equipment manufacturing buried under a pile of "records" and junk. Was filled with 3x5 file cards with personal type info that I noted needing immediate destruction and some older data files - like old as in Hollerith cards. I made a deal with my up line - I'll destroy the info in exchange for the cabinet. It's not like anybody needs to file 3x5 cards anymore anyway. And we dang sure don't need that kind of info laying around in the clear even if it's ancient. It was also part rescue - the bottom is really eaten up with rust and I may have to add metal later to keep it standing. Not kidding on the real steel business - I took out all but one drawer and it was all I could do to roll this thing up into the truck bed. It's a heavy bitoch.

Dropped my bolt bins right in the slots, no mods required.

I have one cabinet like yours and I really like the size. Here is a picture of one of my repurposed microfilm cabinets. The bins are from Rural King.

I did the same thing with a HD file cabinet. I just ordered a bunch of 1/2-13 bolts from McMaster-Carr to get that size selection filled out better.

This pic shows how I added dividers to the HF bins. Thin plastic and hot glue makes for some tuff dividers. the numbers are for the length of the screw in the bin.

Guys have found some nice bins, good scores. I haven't really looked into it, but the dividers in my cab are a single piece of stamped steel. The divider plate looks removable.

I didn't treat the bottom with anything because it is at least 80% gone. What i may do later is cut some 1" square steel tube and tack it in the inside lower corners for support. The place where it was sitting gets wet often. Sounds like a good place to store paper records, huh.

Look at the first pic of my cabinet. I put it on casters. it rolls around easily which makes cleaning and rearranging very easy.

Dad has a couple liberated before he retired. They were surplussed out and obsolete. He is under utilized but he's not ready to part with them. He goes thru binges and purges stuff so one day he subject to call and say come get them.

I like this idea. I've been trying to organize just about everything in my garage over the last year. Sams club sells a wire rack with bins for storage that I was going to use for bolts. I like this idea better as no saw dust can collect.

I'm friends with a guy that sells used office equipment and he lets me know when he gets a shipment of cabinets I might be interested in, such as the ones in my post above.

One of these days my turn will come and I will be able to get my hands on a cabinet like that. They are either to far away to get immediately or gone when I find one and make the call.
Good job on the repurpose Falcon!
