I've always admired this old building in our small town and I finally was able to buy it from the previous owner. It served as an old greyhound bus station for many years but has sat empty since 1989. The original building is 16x50 with the back 8 feet being a small kitchen area. We are adding 1050 square feet adjacent.

Here is the original building

I'll post more progress of the framing soon. It's moving right along but we needed to order all new trusses for the existing building roof. The new trusses will tie in to those on the new addition. This will provide one continuous roof and the entire roof will be hidden by the brick facade and parapets.

I will be using the workshop side for projects. I've gotten into restoring old refrigerators.

Can't wait to get into my new shop. This building site is in a commercial district so the coding issues have been a challenge but it will serve as a retirement shop so I'm willing to put I the work and money now.

My home garage is bursting at the seems and I need a dedicated shop for my projects. Since its zoned commercial, I incorporated as a business and am building the garage as a business. My wife and I will then rent the garage from our business. I occasionally sell some of the items I restore or refurbish, so that will now be business activities.

Framing progress. Ten by ten garage doors on both front and back so I can drive through the building out the alley in the back. The existing building will have antique carriage doors. We found some great doors removed from a house in Georgetown and my wife removed four layers of paint. They will be great.

Wow, congrats on acquiring the old bus station! Do you know when it was built, loos like maybe the thirties or so. So many small town bus stations are going away these days, the old Art Deco style one here in Athens just closed up.:(
Look forward to following your build:thumbup:

Love the project, looks like it will be a nice setup for you. I am a bit curious why you are planning on having the business own the building and then renting it to you personally? I would think the tax benefits would be the opposite way, meaning you personally own the building and then lease it to the business.

Keep up the pictures!

The location is in Morehead City in eastern NC.

I'm excited about the progress of the building. Electrical and plumbing this week. Brickwork is complete. Fire door separating the shop space is on its way. I expect we will get a certificate of occupancy in late April.

I'll post pictures soon.

I wasn't trying to be evasive about the location, but I was in a permit battle with the town and I'm all clear now.

Brickwork is done. Will be finished off with awnings above each door and nice galvanized lights. American flag wall mounted and spot lighted above the large door opening.

The building is just about done. Final was the other day and have a few gas issues to work out. Venting mainly. I love the awnings and lights. Metal will be installed on the awnings this week. I went with birch plywood on the wall only because I got it so cheap (12 a sheet). The back wall and bathroom are wrapped in TG cedar.

I used rough sawn pine for a wall in the low side.

LED lights are great

I also built this fire hose flag to mount on the wall. The building was a greyhound bus station at one time but the lot was the site of our towns first fire station. A little homage to both uses.

Happy 4th of July
