Repurposing an old truck tool box for wall cab

Well there wasn’t a whole lot of fab work involved so I hope I don’t get roasted by the actual experts here, but it seemed the most appropriate forum, so here’s a pretty handy idea for all those old truck tool boxes you see on Craigslist for 20, 30 bucks. I got mine for $10. It was white and rusty similar to this one. I put a wire wheel on the angle grinder and got most of the rust off and sprayed a flat black on it. Added a few granite shelves, a little pegboard on the inside door, a handle, and a Vlad the Impaler sticker and mounted it to my back garage wall to store my stone fab tools. Works for me.

I'll give you $600 for that cartridge respirator.

Good job on the re-purposing. You screwed it to the wall? I probably would-have built a small stand to rest it on, as-well as fastening it to the wall, or used a ledger board fastened to the wall, to rest it upon.

I suspect that you are one of the very-few GJ USA members with stone storage shelves.

Yeah right!

I cut a few 4x4s and placed them against the wall and when I put the box in position it just cleared the floor, so I just left them there when I bolted it to the studs.

I suspect that you are one of the very-few GJ USA members with stone storage shelves.

Heh. Yeah, but what else am I going to do with all these scraps laying around here?! I had my own shop for awhile, so hey...have to support your own trade, right?

GJ member Squashfest81 mounted an old truck box outside his “ 10x Almost 15” shed to store items in.

Make sure you add that to the repurposing thread

Here it is. Took me awhile to find it in that thread. Thanks for that, I ended up reading quite a bit of it! I’d be surprised if a lot of folks didn’t find all sorts of ways to use these when they’re no longer needed in its original form. Cheers!
Edit; for some reason it won’t let me upload the picture of his box mounted to the outside wall. It appears around the middle of the thread for those interested.

This is no hijack. I admit that I never thought to mount it vertical, but why not. I may just mount a second one vertically.

That's an awesome repurpose of a truck tool box. Probably could sit on it too while keeping supplies safe and dry.
