Require advice on garage attic insulation

Been a member in here for a while, just lurking around. I need advice, recently moved into a bungalow with an attached 22x22’ garage. The original owners started to insulate and from the looks of it, they gave up quickly.

I am having a Hot Dawg 45,000 forced air heater installed next week and I will insulating and finishing the garage over the summer. I live in central Canada where we see -20 to -30 winter temps.

1. I have soffit vents around the perimeter of the garage, I will stack the pink rafter vents one after another all the way to the top of the ceiling, correct?

2. Do I insulate just the ceiling then vapour barrier and drywall leaving the attic open? Or so I also insulate over the pink rafter venters?

I will add 2x2” to the existing 2x4’s to gain more insulation, this will be a gym and used to work on vehicles so I want it to be well insulated.

Any help is appreciated

If you do not insulate the roof you do not need to continue the pink rafter venters at least here in US.
You normally use them if you have a vented cathedral ceiling type setup where the insulation sits in between the rafters and not if you just do the ceiling.

Thank you for the reply. If I insulated both the rafters and the ceiling, would it retain heat in the garage better, making it more efficient? I’m guessing it would just keep the attic warmer.

Unless your engineered trusses are made to carry any load which the they not look like as far as I can tell I would only insulate the ceiling.

But I am in the US your codes might differ.

I would only insulate the ceiling, i have ran into some houses where they insulated the roof and ended up having to replace trusses and roof sheeting due to the sheeting and rafters dry rotting out. and like acer66 said don't worry about the pink rafter venters.

Those rafter vents are just too let the eave breath when doing blown in. If you using batts or sheet foam their is no need for them. They are not a insulator
