Required distance for pull-in and back-out

I am new here. Hope I don't make a fool of myself with my post.

I am located on a hill so need to do a lot of excavation for a garage behind my house. I am seeking info on distance required between house and proposed garage for effective pull-in and back-out from the garage without ramming the house. My current car has a “minimum turn circle of 35.4’.”

I don’t want to do a turn-a-round, just pull in and back out. The two buildings will be parallel with the driveway running next to the house. My current plan is to use 10’ doors. Because of the amount of excavation required, leaving space for a car to stand/park outside the garage with a pass-by is out of the question (cars must be parked inside the garage, not outside).

Any advice will be appreciated.

The easy way to visualize is to go to a large open car park, put some chalk marks of the sizes of garage etc and start backing around putting marks on the ground, then place a cone etc with a pole in it once you have a good idea and make sure it works.

You should also plan for the largest vehicle that you may want in the future, or that a future owner of your home will likely use.

And plan for the wife driving too. Just because you can pull into the garage with your eyes closed doesn't mean a lesser experienced driver can. Not calling your wife dumb, just playing on the stereotype that women can't drive. I know my wife couldn't back into a parking spot to save her life.

Very true, not putting down any competent on the road drivers, but there is a side park (almost perpendicular to a 2x2 car driveway) space at my parents place. I almost always back in from the road, my neighbor tried it one day, in and out both directions in a smaller car and just couldn't do it.

We had an identical issue with our building - below grade, tight turn, but with the added complication of having to back a trailer in and out.
I'll measure out if it would be helpful, but in rough terms its 20' from the garage door the the inside edge of the right angle turn.

The drive is also 10' wide, so that would make it 30' to the outside edge of the drive.
Does that explanation make sense? That may seem like a lot, but it gives enough room for a large truck to move around comfortably.

For a mid size car, 20' should get it. If both doors are behind the house, then maybe 25~30 is you have it. I had a house back when that had a 8' wide drive with a straight shot into one 9' door with another 9' door to the right. Garage about 24' from the back of the house. No problem backing out and turning back into the drive from the second door.

If I had to dig into a hill, it'd be hard to resist building some underground lair and using big white signs on the equipment that said "BAT..." something.
