reside garage ??

I have a double garage on a bare lot, it is 30+ years old , it has 12 '' fiber ? board sideing & is getting shot. What can I do to it ,not sold on alum. siding.It has that black board under the present siding. Do i need to remove old siding ? Don't want to spend a ton money on it. ?????

My house was built like that. I went vinyl siding.
Nothing removed, sheet foam insulation tacked up to the old Masonite boards and siding placed over that.

Masonite and vinyl are both temporary siding IMO.

T111, rough sawn siding might be an option, overlap the Celotex board to create a stronger wall.
