Im sure someone out here has installed a residential type window in a metal building, but any one have any pictures of how they did it? Both with a framed out wall supporting it, and without? Thanks in advance

We framed them in when putting the girts on the sides of the building and then just slid the metal behind the molding when we installed the siding.

Retro fit, into an already existing metal building, the lowest girt is at 7'4" so its too tall to hang the window from that, I think I will have to frame up a wall just to put in the window

Sounds like you have an all metal building. You can frame the windows with red iron angles, clips, and bolts available from any metal building supply house. You will most likely have to temporarily unscrew some of the outside panels to properly fit the J-mold. I recommend caulking liberally with a product called "Through The Roof."

In my metal building (all metal, not pole barn) the window is framed with steel more or less identical to the girts. Were I to add more windows, I'd add new framing but it could easily end up being wood and not metal! BTW: I used vinyl windows. I strongly recommend you not use aluminum windows in a steel building: steel is sacrificial to aluminum.
