Resistance split-phase motor induction motor wiring help?

So I opened up my old factory singer machines motor tonight. It is a robbins and meyers from the 30s if it is orginal to the machine. Any how it is not a normal ac capacitor run motor and I cannot figure out how the wires should run. The ancient gaffers tape came apart when I pulled the housing apart. Before that it smoked a little on start up, and ran the same direct with polarities reversed (there are no clear polarities marked on the wire or elsewhere), otherwise fine.

Is anyone familiar with this motor style? It has two windings one small that switches off after starting the machine. Each winding has two ends and there are two posts with cotter pins soldiered to wires running through those. The posts go to the same side of a housing end. I understand the principals of this motor style but can't figure out how the wires are intended to be run.

The taped blue wires are untouched white and yellow I am not sure about.

Does anyone know how these should connect?

Well if anyone in the future cares. I found that the large coils should have current at all times and the small coils are on the centrifugal switch. The small coils only work when the motor bogs down or on start. The small coils get power from the two posts which are in contact with the copper disk at low speeds

It seems just searching "split phase motor" is a better key word to search for. Then just weeding through the type that has a capacitor.

To bad this motor only comes in lower power variants, the only thing to go wrong is the switch and the bearings. A great simple design

Glad you got it running, but I'd be careful. That stator looks like it got pretty toasted...

I'm a firm believer that once you let even a "little" smoke out of the motor you can never get it back in...

Glad you got it running, but I'd be careful. That stator looks like it got pretty toasted...

Thanks, I will be careful with it. The copper has really seen some heat in its day. Its a dark purple under oil and dust. The motors vents were completly obstructed with dust buttons and thread. Between no air flow in its later life and the fact that in possibly ran none stop thru WWII and before I am hoping was the issue is resolved.

I'm a firm believer that once you let even a "little" smoke out of the motor you can never get it back in...

I am going to give it one shot, and maybe chalk it up to the combination of oil and dust. If it makes it will be keeping a fire extinguisher close at hand. Then let it run for an hour or so and make sure it checks out

My biggest concern in a situation like this is thermal runaway. Once it starts it can't be stopped. When you run it again I'd pay very close attention to the amp load. If it starts to increase under a constant load call it a day and say some words of remembrance.
