Hello!
First shop build and my brain hurts from learning so much, but here we go -
We have a 40x40' pole barn on a 4" concrete slab, 6x6 posts every 10' on exterior walls, 14' eave height. I'm planning to build an enclosed / insulated / temp controlled work room along one of the exterior walls. The room itself will be fairly small, about 320 square feet, and span 33' along one eave side wall, with 10' ceiling height. The maximum width will be 10', with another smaller section of 8', so it won't be a perfect rectangle.
Planning to use 2x6's for the framing, studs 16" OC. For contact with the concrete, PT with sill seal, using tapcon screws.
So far, so good? Now, for the ceiling - I'd really love to use the space above the room as storage. Light loads, nothing particularly heavy (except for me when I go up there). If we used 2x6's for the joists, 16" OC, spanning the width of the room (so along the 10' runs between the exterior and interior wall), would that be sufficient? Do we need to go with something heavier somewhere? Would 1/2" OSB work for a "floor" above the joists on the loft side? I'd prefer plywood but man has it gotten expensive. Would I regret not using it?
Please feel free to give me any feedback if I'm forgetting anything.
