Restoration forum or sub-forum?

It seems there are a lot of restorations. Perhaps keeping them in one place would allow them to be viewed and found more easily. Just a thought.

Edit: Or perhaps the fab & techniques could be called "Fabrication and Restoration" or something like it.

Mitch, I can't add a new forum, but what about this: I just created three new categories in the stickies collection at the top of the tools section of the site. I created categories for restored vises, hand tools, and tool boxes. Any other restoration types I should include?

What I can do is place links to each of these types of restos in that stickies folder, so they are all in one place and easy to find.

Does that sound good to you, or merely a lame band-aid fix?

It sounds like a guide to the forums. I was hoping to actually make a forum. The sticky is an improvement though. It just seems there are more people discussing restos of various things (don't forget machines!) that some of the less used forums (ie vendor review).

I suppose it would be a guide of sorts. I think of it as more of a collection. If someone wanted to look at all our vise resto threads, they could look at the list I created in the stickies section and go to town without having to search.

I'm not sure when the last time a new forum was created here, and I just don't think it will happen any time soon. The membership is split on the issue, anyway. Some say more forums make the site feel more spread out/diluted/cluttered whatever.

while i was looking to fix up my wilton I was wishing for just such a forum. A search turned up most of the info I needed, but a sticky would have been great.

I've seen some forums where the stickies make up the first half of a page of a sub category and it's very inconvenient. At that point a sub cat is probably warranted.

I'll probably wish for a restoration category as I collect more old tools though. It'd be more convenient than multiple searches and then trying to dig those posts back up when I need a reference.

It was getting that way here, but we adopted a new system. One sticky at the top of the page, and when you open that you have your long list of stickies, organized by category.

I created headings for the different types of restorations within the tools sticky, but have not linked to any threads there yet.
