common name is .... Holophane. it's a prismatic glass that allows for full use of the lumens w/o glare. ------- many varities. Some had a bulb cage --- glass or metal. others had a glass plate that filled the bottom.

they work well in spaces with high ceilings ...... haved used them in a few projects over the years. great for kitchens w/ high ceiling where you need a lot of output.

harder and harder to find the real ones

There are companies that make new frames for the old glass .... I don't think anybody makes the glass anymore. The real glass .. there are reproductions.

It's like the old garage porcelain shades --- the old stuff can be worth quite a lot.

I paid over 1k for 3 NOS matching a few months ago
