Hello-

I just picked up a relatively inextensive Atlas benchtop drill press to restore. Clearly I am not the first one to do this as the internet seems to be full of videos of such things. However there are some topics that are never covered:

1. Is there a source for new COLUMNS? Or were the original columns plated with zinc, nickel or chrome? Mine is solid rust, so it will need to be cleaned up, but leaving it as bare metal seems dubious.

2. Anyone know a source of paired, cloth wrapped wire? The previous owner's rewired it so that the wires just created a full circuit. The switch did nothing. I'd like to replace this concoction with something that not only can carry the wattage for the 1/3hp motor, but looks right as well.

3. Anyone have a good source for belts? Not the cog type...real belts.

That's about it for now. Your help is appreciated.

I'm in the same position of just getting an old Atlas drill press that I will restore. My issue is that the I'm missing the pulley cover. I recall seeing cast covers with "atlas" cast in, but so far haven't found any. Thinking of pursuing 3D printing.

Are you planning to do something to the column (after removing the rust) other than coating it with a protectant?
