A couple of my fiberglass electrical boxes have the threads stripped so I can't install the receptacles tightly. How can I restore those threads?

I have inserted a single toothpick into the hole and broke it off flush then inserted the screw. Took a little finagling but has worked so far.

I use thread inserts when stripped out that way the original screws can be used.

They make special screws with wider, more aggressive threads just for this purpose.

Alternatively you can cut the nails holding the box and replace it with an old work type box.

That'll work if you use a wood screw. It's a pain when you go and replace the receptacle, but whatever it takes to hold it right...

I would find a bigger screw. I believe a number 8 sheet metal screw will go right in. You can use a self driller, doesnt split the box. There might even be a time and place in the electric trade for a ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, drywall screw.

If it was your house I would use drywall screws but on my house I would always look at that recept and remember that drywall screw.
