I stopped into the local Harbor Freight today to pick an end cabinet for my tool box. At the checkout counter, I whip out my trusty 20% off coupon, and it wasn't accepted. Upon further inspection, it turns out you can't use the 20% coupon on things like welders, tool storage and a few other select things. Has anyone else run into this, or is there another coupon that dosen't have these restrictions? I ask because i've seen a few threads of people buying toolboxes with the 20% off, is this bull, or what? :wtf:

It's been in the fine print on the coupons for years, but the local stores have been getting more diligent about enforcing it recently. Right now, it still depends on the store and the clerk at the counter. Once the clerk gets yelled at for the first time, they start to crack down.

Yeah I think they've had issues with people using fake coupons that would go up to nearly 70% off and people were practically stealing stuff. I was told this by a manager a number of years ago when I first noticed this.

So as the result of that, most coupons are printed with that to prevent the expensive stuff from being hauled off by scammers. But in the end we get screwed as well.

ok, that makes sense.... The clerk was just about to give me the discount until the computer rejected the coupon.

I think that has been the policy for quite a while now. Both HF's I frequent always scan the coupon bar code and the register(computer connected) gives the discount and the clerk is off the hook.

Because of this policy they have actually lost sales from me.

That 7 drawer end cabinet is worth 150.00 but not 200.00, not to me that is for sure.
