My wife and I recently finished a 15-month remodeling project on our 3,000 s.f. shop. The building was built in 1983 by my father-in-law as a place to maintain heavy equipment for his construction company. He used it for about 12 years, then moved to a bigger location further into town. After that, it was used by my wife's ex-husband, but he didn't really take very good care of it. It sat empty for 2-3 years until we decided to make it into someplace cool where we could build hot rods, which is a hobby of ours, and entertain friends.

It was in pretty rough shape on the inside and was in dire need of a renovation. We started demo in January 2011 and finished in March 2012. We did everything ourselves, except for hanging the 2 big roll-up doors.

This is what it looked like when we started:

There was a small office and store room and above that was extra storage.

And here are the after pictures:

Here you can see the new store room, kitchen, and the bathroom is located behind the kitchen. To the right is the "lounge" area.

We've already started our first project in our new shop, a '67 Nova pro-touring build. Check it out at www.67novaproject.blogspot.com

In the following days, I will post more pics on the different phases of the shop renovation.

There was a storage area up there before and if you didn't duck, you would smack your head on beam. So somebody who used to work for my father-in-law years ago sprayed painted that up there.

I like it a lot. May I suggest an area rug in the lounge area? Yes, I know it might get grease on it - so don't spend a lot. But it'll define the area better and warm it up too. Just a suggestion. Looks great.

Thanks for the suggestion on the rug! We still have lots more decorating to do (put more stuff on the walls, etc.).

What a transformation
I like that you skined the inside of the building (very clever)
and the chair rail made from old license plates is a first (nicely done)
epoxy floors sure cleans up a building and makes it a place one wants to be in

I say congrats. on your new hang out so now lets fill it up with hotrods
and post more pictures
Thanks for sharing

You can buy the vintage looking hanging lights at Lowes in a Nickel finish and white I know, and maybe a few other colors (except green like I wanted)

My wife gets all the credit for the license plate border.

We got the warehouse lights at Home Depot for about $30 each. Love 'em!
