I just retired From Spirit Aero Systems in June and started building my 20 x 28 garage at sametime.
I have a lot of projects planned for the future. The first project is Whipple Super charger install on my F150 SC.
I plan on finishing it out and installing a Daiken mini-split in it. I have the garage framed, roofed. Sided, and finishing up electrical. I have done everthing other then the concrete myself and a little help from my son.
It has been quite a challenge in the 90 and 100 degree temperatures we have been having all summer.20220726_153151.jpg20220906_181910.jpg

Nice build. I think that is a nice size for a workshop/garage. Anything much smaller is restricting, but anything much larger for me just leads to clutter.

No windows? I only put one window in my garage when I built it, over the workbench. 25 years later, that was enough.

Not to be a "know it all" or anything, but the header above the overhead door should be sitting on two 2X4's on each side.

Nice looking garage. I have that exact same DeWalt saw and stand. Wonderful saw, and the stand is really nice too. It was well thought out and built from heavy duty aluminum. It is easy to use and easy to carry to where you need it. There are times when I am not sure what I like more, the saw or the stand.

I thought really hard about putting at least one window in but decided not to. I will have A/C going any time I am in there so I don't need it for ventilation, I want all the wall space I can get, and less of a chance of getting broke into.

I have skylights in my garage. They were there when we bought the house. I would have never guessed how much light they allow in. Most days I am in there, I don’t even turn the lights on. If you ever decide you wanted natural light without giving up wall space, you can add some skylights later!

Finsished my breaker panel I was going to put main breakers in panel for my disconnet but they wont fit. I going to put one on the exterior instead.
Starting on insulation now and looking for a good drywall installer. One of the few things I dont care to do. Seems mosy of them are really busy and ate weeks or longer out.

Yeah that would be nice, you ever have problems with leaks.

I haven’t yet, but the garage is new to me. We bought the house a year ago and I have been redoing the inside of the house. No leaks in the garage that I have seen. Fingers crossed.

Sheetrock done and all painted. Installing lights and mini split now. I have a set of cabinets i took out of my kitchen when i remodeled it and will be building a corner bench with a hardwood flooring top. I haven't decided what species of wood i am going to use for the top yet.

Did you build the top for the cabinets yet? I finished mine with black formica laminate and am very happy with that.

Glad I was able to catch your garage thread before it was a epic read.
What caught my eye was that it is the size I have choose for the lake and for the same reasons. I have subscribed your thread to watch your progress. Our garage was hopefully should have been started over a year ago, but the contractor is pretty overwhelmed. But his build quality is excellent so hoping he can lay a pad at least before winter sets in.
Good luck with your remaining build.

Thanks, it seems like the same story for a lot people out there building new or remodling. The contrators i have talked to say they think it is due to two things, the supply chain and the fact that so many people are either buying new or remodling because the super low interest rates and people staying at hone more because of covid.
Also waiting on your contractor for quality work is a good move there are some shady general contractors out there. Good luck.

Adding some newer pictures. Also put a coat of Deco Shine on part of my floor and didn't like it at all the solvent smell was terrible even a week later.
I decided to go with coating instead, rented a floor grinder and purchased the cutters a #30 and #80. Talk about work it took me Friday night, Saturday and Sunday to get it all done. Now I'm trying to decide if on epoxy with urethane top coat or spend extra and do a polyaspartic top coat.

Well after placing a order for epoxy kit on 11/14 I never received any ship date so I called them Monday and they told me they are waiting on primer, clearcoat and didn't know when that would be.
Jeez would of been nice to let me know so I'm not sitting around waiting on something that will not be coming.
So I canceled the order and sourced the same materials in the kit they have from 3 different suppliers, I guess the epoxy and clearcoat is hard to get right now.
So it will finally be here by the weekend and I would like to get it done.

I also was planning reusing kitchen cabinets I had from my kitchen remodel.
I was going to ose a diamond tread pattern formica on the front doors and paint the edges and the cabinet frames.
Now I have scrapped that idea and getting ready to pull the trigger on a 14 piece set of Newage Pro Series cabinets.
I haven't found anything better then these for the price unless I'm missing something.
Unless someone can come up with something better and talk me out of it im probably going to order today.
Oh and I also finally got my mini split going had to replace main controller assembly.

I've got an order in for a set of Husky Heavy Duty welded wall cabinets. Hoping to get them sooner than later. I have one of the freestanding 36x24x81 cabinets and like it enough to order the wall cabinets from the same line.

I originally ordered some of the Gladiator ready to assemble wall cabinets because Home Depot had them for $140 ($55/each less than the Husky HD). I put one together and was not satisfied with the build quality, so I am planning to return them

Yeah I don't really care for any of the Gladiator cabinets. My choices are between the Newage Pro series and the Husky HD series. Overall I like the Newage better because of there looks and a little heavier gauge, however I didn't know if the were worth the extra. I have found a really good deal on set of Newage Pro at Costco for the same or less the the Husky cabinets so will probably order them today.

Roger that. Personally I do not have experience with the Newage cabinets, so I can't weigh in there. I'm at a different stage in life, where the additional $1300 could be spent elsewhere, so I would personally probably lean towards the Husky.

Another consideration for me would be lead time. I see many people wait 3+ months for Newage to arrive, whereas husky is showing available for in store pickup in less than two weeks.

Have you considered ordering one of each and comparing side by side?

I actually thought about doing that with the Newage pro series and the Bold Series. I wish more places carried a cabinet display to look at it would not be that difficult to do.
I have looked at some of the Husky tool boxes and they look really well built.

I agree with you on that. I was shocked when I found that Home Depot doesn't carry any Husky cabinets in store. Lowes has the Gladiators, Craftsman, and Kobalt all in store I believe. Menards has the Masterforce in store. Plus Husky is an exclusive brand, so it's not like people would use the store as just a showroom.

They do in Canada. At least they did when I bought mine a few years back.
