$50 It was only posted on CL for five minutes before I snagged. The wise man I purchased this from said his kids didn't have any interest in any of it. So, he chose to "give" it to someone that could keep them going.

Thats why I dropped everything and took off. When I got back (30min) I realized I left the garage open, the doors unlocked. Why do these deals have so much power over us. My wife would have killed me if she knew...:bounce:

I have that Craftsman ratchet, got it last year for $10 as I recall. It's good and tight. I looked it up on the Alloy Artifacts site, it dates from the early 30s.

Mine works perfectly as well. Set seems complete, would like to get some more info on it though.

Re: more info on Craftsman ratchet: They were made by New Britain. That style of ratchet with the female square drive was tried by other tool makers, I think including Snap on. I have an Indestro ratchet in that style, but it has a reversing lever instead of flipping the ratrche over. They furnished different length square extensions also.

I have a 1/4" drive craftsman version that is cute, it even comes with different square adapters so that you can use 3/8 drive sockets on it.

Mine came in a tiny little box with the same greenish/brown paint as yours. It was part of a bigger c-man set that came in a 3-drawer toolbox in the same finish. Is it marked "Craftsman BE"? I still use the extensions and sockets out of it all the time, as well as the T-bar. Good quality stuff, a little clunky but works really well.

Great finds in this and the flea market pics. I like the wise man's generous attitude towards tools !

My wife and I have a similar agreement. I've told her several times that most of my tools are not cheaply made.

Should something happen to me, they can be sold at a decent price and return some extra cash for herself or the kids. If she prefers to sell them at garage sale prices, then I wanted the garage sale would be open to only friends of mine.

If she wants to sell the tools at pennies on the dollar then (I said) they should go to those who will enjoy and use them.

She was fine with that suggestion!

BTW: We both have insurance plans and other financial investments, the sale of tools is not part of my retirement plan. I'll be using them til I'm dead.

we've had a similar discussion on the subject of tools, she knows who i want certain things to go to, and if her son wants anything, that he will use, then that stuff goes to him. of course she can keep whatever she wants too.
i have a small circle of friends, and a couple of them dont have much in the way of tools, so they get 1st choice of what they are likely to use.
she knows how i feel about "gifts" that are resold, if you aint gonna use it , dont take it or ask for it.
anything thats left will probably get garage saled

With all due respect too you guy's do you buy this stuff to resell it, collect it or do you buy it to use?

everything i buy, i intend on using. if a tool gets replaced with something better ( in my eyes) i usually give it to a buddy of mine. he's not a mechanic, but can do some simple things, and the few tools he has were bday or xmas gifts from his parents, and all in small tacklebox size toolboxes.
i was going through things and ended up with an old set of wards powrkraft boxes that i wasnt using, a bunch of SO & CM socket rails and clips, a few CM wrench racks, some odds and ends of sockets, wrenches, & nut drivers. i loaded all the stuff up and took it out to him, he kept telling me he didnt have any cash right now, we'd settle up in a couple weeks.
no worries bud, it's all yours, now gimme a beer :drink:
