Retired in Oct. and loving it. Worked the last five days running conduit and wiring for a friends shop 40x60x15ft. walls. 24 LED lights it is bright in there. When he is ready I'll run the conduit for the receptacles and the 220volts for the compressor and welder. Is it really work when you enjoy what you are doing?

I hope I am physically still able to do things when i retire. As far as mentally that ship sailed long ago.

I watched my father-in-law work until he was 67. He spent 39 years at LTV Steel and only enjoyed a few years of retirement until health problems set in and changed everything.

Doesnt seem fair.

I was 60 in 2010 when my company offered an early retirement package. I grabbed it and ran!! Haven't regretted it for a single minute.

The key to being able to comfortably retire is to start saving for retirement on the first day you start working. Don't depend on Social Security because, for the young folks, it won't exist when they get to retirement age.

I retired @ 54, been retired 8 years this August. The wife retired last year @ 58. Been doing a lot of RVing. Going to Arizona in two weeks for about a month then a cross country rv trip in August for about 7 weeks or so. Loving retirement..

63 and winding down. Finished my last real job in the fall of 2012 and have taken on a few short term consulting jobs since, last one was for a couple days in Sep. Have been enjoying my time working on the Garage, House and new garden. Haven't posted any gardening pics so far so here are a few. All set for planting this spring. This year I will clear out a section for an orchard.

Amen! P/T still means getting up at a specific time, being somewhere at a specific time, a commute, etc. Screw that! The money would have to be truly exceptional to get me back in the work force.

Good advice. And unless your wife has things to keep her busy when she retires (hobbies, volunteering, etc.) don't retire at the same time. Preferably retire first and get solidly into the things you do. Otherwise she'll find ways to fill your time together. After 40 or so years of working that will be more of an adjustment than you want. It's happened to a few friends ... fortunately not me!

I got out in my early '50's on a pension. Thus far I have found no downside whatsoever. Latest project is a shed I need to get power to which will provide some space for woodworking tools there is no room in the garage for. THEN I MIGHT get one bay of the garage recovered... any of this sound familiar?

Wife and I retired in May 2010 and we are busy as ever; just doing things we enjoy. I have never figured out how someone could be bored with retirement, like someone else said, I think we are busier now than when we were mid career and I have thought about getting a regular job so I can have a rest.

I'm pulling the plug somewhere between March this year and March next year. All dependent upon a few checks with the orthopedic guys and a foot surgeon. I want to be gone prior to the next contract date. Not to say I don't trust the corp, but I just don't trust the corp.
I'm can out early @ 55, I'm going to do it. I've burned up some years from living my life, so I'd better get to it while I can because later might never come.

Ditto on not having enough time since 'we' retired. I think it is because there is no "rush". You have time for the 2nd and 3rd cup of coffee....or put on another pot! Ya sleep longer....ya feel better. No hurry...... A little more than 4 years under my belt. Do not miss the plant...GM..... but miss the people and all the friends.
