Can anyone tell me what would be a good quality retractable airhose reel at a reasonable price?

Try Northern Tool. I know several here have said the one that's listed for $90 that's not enclosed is pretty good. It should have a 50' hose. It's the one that was recently $50 for the black friday deals. There's also some other ones made by the same company that are listed at $50 on sale. Check NT and search for air hose reels to see the ones I found. There are good reviews on them too.

Yes, for a 3/8" ID hose, the Reelworks from Northern is great for the price. I have two of them, one that's many years old (8-10 years) and one that's new. I've been happy with them for home use. $80 plus shipping at the moment.

Oh, and avoid PVC hose like the plague. Whatever you choose, make sure it's a rubber hose.

This one comes up and says vinyl hose in the description -- is that accurate or a typo? I definitely want rubber.

Also, I was surfing Amazon and came across this company Neiko that has reels as well. They look very similar to the Northen Tools Reelworks (don't they all?), and similar prices. Also noticed they offer a 100' model, which I find interesting. Anyone have experience with these?

Hmm, very strange. It was previously a rubber hose, and my latest one arrived in November and has a rubber hose. I don't know if Northern has just now changed the hose, or if it's a typo. I'm inclined to think it's a typo, since the Reelworks PVC hosed model that Northern sells is $30 cheaper.

I saw those when I was looking, but I haven't seen one in person.

It looks like someone asked about the Reelworks hose in the Q&A section of the web page on Northern's site, just 3 days ago. The response, 16 hours old, was that the hose is red rubber. So I think the 'vinyl' is a typo.

Anyone know where you can get a cover for one of these?
I've searched a lot and I can only find antiques, seems no one makes a cover anymore!

Some advice on one to avoid. The Craftsman hose reels were on sale a while back and I got 2 of them. The hose is ok but the latching mechanism that holds the hose when it's pulled out isn't very good.

I've got the Northern Tool reel that is posted above. Works great and has never given me any problems. The hose that I got with mine is rubber but that was over 5 years ago.
