I'm re-introducing myself from years ago. I was here a short time some years ago. My main skills are journeyman as an industrial machinist and worked as a truck and auto mechanic when first out of highschool for a few years. I served a four year apprenticeship and then worked almost thirty years as a machinist for Alcoa. I took an early retirement and ran my own machine shop for about twenty years and then took another retirement. Now only work when someone runs me down. Still have my own shop just for my use.
Recoveryman.

Incidentally, My handle came from my military job, recovery specialist for the National Guard.

Is a "Recovery Specialist" a Wrecker Operator or a "Repo Man" ? Both of which are valuable Skill Sets.

Welcome back...so I gotta ask, "Where did ya go?"
Laptop died and you couldn't find a replacement hard drive or a compatible Windows 95 program?
A mountain gal strung you up to her brass bed and broke yer kneecaps?
Ya got a free ticket to Tahiti and lived on coconut milk and sea scallions?
You lost your memory after slipping and getting knocked out, caught in stringy swarf you made in the shop?
Aliens grabbed you installing a lever on the wrecker and you spent all this time under the ice caps of Antarctica?
Your prosthetic arm finally can back from the repair shop?
Mental health years???? ....as we all know the members here can drive ANYONE crazy?!?!?
You do not have to answer my query, we know how you "Machinists" are....LOL! :ROFLMAO:
Well.....hope you stick around for a while.....or not.

ambenz: You got it on the second option. A mountain gal hogtied me and I couldn't get back to civilzation. Honestly, I was working in my own shop and didn't have a lot of extra time, so some things got neglected. I enjoyed what little time I spent here, but I also was spending time on a couple of machinist forums and thus time was scarce.

Nadogail: Yeah, wrecker operator at first, then Recovery Sergeant over the platoon. Two 5 ton wreckers (powerful beasts) with 5 recovery crewmen and a welding truck with a generator/welder and 3 man weldor crew. We would serve as trail party for convoys. Any truck or vehicle that fell out to the side of the road in convoys was my responsiblity. When we convoyed to summer camp, we covered the road from the southwest point of Indiana to the northern part of Michigan and back home two weeeks later.

I have often thought about putting a civilian paint job on a 5 Ton Wrecker and dragging home anything that could be driven on or off the highway.
Then I woke up and decided that the civilians would not understand what a good service I could provide.
With advanced age caution entered my life.
