Looked all over and see no reference to this. Will be replacing 12k Daikin 15 series evaporator coil. Can I use the old lineset flair or should I make a new one. Have the proper tools to make and torque flair, but not much play in the lineset.
I'd make new flares. Most tubing cutters have grooves in the rollers for the purpose of cutting off just the flare, so you would only be shortening the tubing by 1/4" or less. This gives you fresh seating surfaces on both sides of the flare as well as eliminating the base area of the original flare which is the most likely area to crack over time.
Probably going to say this wrong, but the best flair tools have the die slightly off set. Makes a better finish. Don't cheap out ! Buy a brand name designed for HVAC work !
As suggested I did redo the flairs, I have decent Black Max cutter and concentric flaring tool, plus torque wrenches. Being a DIY/hack I left little slack in the lines to play with.
