Reverse Gable Design Ideas Needed

For my next project, I am thinking about replacing the crappy 2 car (20' x 22') reverse gable that is attached on the side of my ranch style house. It is connected with a 4' breezeway which I would like to do away with and attach the garage directly onto the side of the house.

I am thinking about replacing it with larger structure - 28' W x 26' deep and with two 10' W x 8' H doors. I have an F350 PSD Crew Dually that won't fit in the existing garage since it is 22' long bumper-to-bumper. This is the max. size I can put in that spot before running into side yard clearance issues, existing house windows and a buried gas line.

My question is, has anyone done a reverse gable that has "A" shaped dormers front and back? Maybe the correct term is "cross-gable"? What I envision is the garage wall above the garage doors extending on up to form the front of the dormer. The dormer outline would not go fully to the far edges of the sides, say perhaps 22' or so to just keep the snow/rain from falling directly in front of the garage doors.

The thing that has me confused is how to frame the eaves (soffit & gutter area) on either side of the dormers. I am thinking of using standard trusses and then building the "A" shaped dormers on top of them since I don't need any attic space. Anybody have any pics of something like that??

Is this the type of thing you are talking about?
http://www.mrdbinc.com/garages.html

This is the website of the guy who did my foundation (I'm doing the rest), and there are two examples of ranchers having garages added on.

If you're going to have the new garage attached to the house, how deep is your house? If the garage will be deeper than the house, you will need to have differently sized rafters/ trusses for the roof.

Thank's for the link. Yes, the 3rd image is almost exactly what I am thinking. The garage would be set back from the side of the house so the roofline of the existing house does not line up with the roofline of the new garage.

Here is what the existing mess of a garage looks like.

I will tell you this now, you will want deeper than 26 For your truck. I have a Extend Cab Long Bed and it is tight in a 28" deep garage. If you have anything up front, you will not be able to walk around it.

To many to list.

Here is what a building designer came up with as a replacement for the existing garage. I can't go any wider than 28' due to the side yard restrictions (distance from property line) and no deeper than 26' because of a buried gas line (behind) and the side window on the house. Let me know your thoughts or any different ideas I might want to consider. This garage is only going to be used to park two vehicles in - I have plenty of storage space in the basement and the 60' x 100' I put up a couple of years ago.

Is it possible to move the window in the side of the existing house more to the front? That would enable you to bring the front wall of the garage toward the street and give you more room. Just looking at the scale of the pictures, you might be to get an additional 6 feet or so.

No, the window on that side of the house is in a small room (my wife's office) so there isn't any way to move it. The only thing I could do is block it off if I had to but then I'd get no natural light into that side of the house at all (faces to the south-east). I'm OK with the 26' depth though as I don't plan on having anything in there other than a couple of vehicles and maybe a 4-wheeler (ATV).
