Hey guys,

I have a specialty application that requires a way to deliver 100 PSI air into small diameter piping for pressure test purposes in a very mobile setting. Over the years, that has led me down the thorny path of buying cordless air compressors by the dozen.

My latest attempt (a trial run) was to buy a 40V Greenworks.

The specs seemed reasonable so I bought one and gave it to a crew to test out. First results seemed promising. The unit is capable of pumping up a 50 foot section of 3/4" IPS Polyethylene pipe pretty quickly. The light weight and handy cordless operation make the job much easier than a bulky engine driven compressor.

Then the unit took a dump. After about 6 hours of total run time, the unit would not build pressure. Possibly a seal issue internal to the compressor...but I'm not really sure.

So, I called the handy 800 number. They wanted me to take it a couple of hours away to a service center, but after I told them that would not work they agreed to send me another bare unit (no battery or charger). Cool.

So the second unit arrived and was DOA. Would not start. Would not run. When shaken it made a rattling noise and bits of electronic parts slowly trickled out from inside the case.

So, I called the handy 800 number. The world's perkiest CSA apologized profusely and agreed to immediately send me a new bare tool and have the offending one ups-ed out of here. Cool-ish. I like perky.

The new unit arrived today. It fired up and seems to run fine.

BUT based on the experience so far, I'm going to pass on buying any more. Maybe if you kept this near the pool to blow up inflatables it would work...but sending it to a job site with a construction crew doesn't. I don't think the compressor was "abused" at all, but as you guys know...job site tools don't lead a charmed life...and have to be tough enough to handle it...and the Greenworks unit doesn't seem to have that level of quality.

As Maxwell Smart likes to say...

Cute little thing. I realize you didn't ask for alternatives, but I guess you've considered using just a large portable tank? Or maybe a 12 volt compressor, like the type the serious off road guys use? I know that some are built extremely well, but I don't know if they'll put out 100 PSI.

Every review I've read says they're only good for bike tires, beach balls and pool floats. It doesn't even have enough oomph to fill a car tire. Did your guys happen to mention they only pressurized one system within that 6 hours?? On the other hand, if that's the secretary that helped you, Greenworks just scored some points with me. Even if their products do stink. :lol_hitti
