Well after getting tired of the DD looking like **** because it sits outside 24/7 I decided to purchase a garage door opener that would last as I'm going to replace my doors w/ R-17 Insulated doors soon that are still hurricane rated.

After a great deal of research I purchased the Jackshaft. I got what I feel was a good deal and got my other opener tuned up and ready to work.

It is very fast, I think and quite. It does makes some noise when it goes to slow but I believe that's just the 24 DC motor vs the normal AC unit.

If anyone want's a video I'd be glad to post one up.

Total install time was about 1.5 hours from a installer who's done quite a few of these. I only installed one opener in my life took me a whole day and NEVER worked right.

They also balanced my other door and adjusted the opener. I must say they are both smooth once tuned up.

I just put mine in on Saturday. Took me a couple hours on Saturday and then a couple hours yesterday, I had to run an electrical outlet and organize all the wires, etc.. I paid 315 shipped from Amazon. You are right, it does get a little louder as it slows down. What I still find weird is that it is actually supported by the torsion bar it self. there is a small bracket to hold the bottom side in place. I figured I would have to block against the wall to have a solid surface to bolt to. I had not downloaded the install manual before I started so I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Had I read the instructions a couple times before I started and had the outlet already installed, it would have gone a little quicker. Not stopping to see Santa with the 8mo. old and going to lowes for a j-box wouldnt have hurt either!!

How much did you pay for the unit? The install?

I paid 550, this included two keyfob remotes for the car and the garage door remote (I think we also have a wireless keypad in the box that I did not want installed). I also had to have them fix the small door the opener is installed on as I had a small accident exactly two weeks after I paid for the house and put my trailer hitch into the door :)lol_hitti yes a 150 mph rated hurricane door will stop a 6,000 lb truck in it's tracks at 5 mph). So for the last 3 years the door has been out of balance and also needed some hurricane hardware reinstalled. He also adjusted, lubed and balanced my other heavy 2 car door that has a 3/4 hp Chamberlain on it. Replaced a roller on the other door and something else.

I feel this is fair as he spent 3 almost 4 hours installing the opener and light, adjusting the doors and other opener. It would have taken at least 6 hours of my time which I could spending working or playing with my kid which is worth more then the 230 bucks I paid in labor depending on what the purchase price would have been. I also have ZERO idea how to adjust a garage door so my other door would still be banging around as it went up and down and who knows if this one would have worked right to being with.
