I am confused and have been trying to figure out if, when rewiring an air compressor from 120V to 220V. Do you need to plug it into any other outlet different from a standard 120V outlet?

Please explain!

Thanks!

If you rewire it to 220, then it has to go in a 220 outlet.

That said, does the compressor have instructions you 100% can follow to convert it?

220 bites compared to 110 just nibbling if you mess up.

I am doing the same for my lift. If you look at the motor, it may have a good wiring diagram for the 110V and 220V circuit. Look and read several times. It's not very hard, but mistakes hurt.

If the motor is a convertible motor, with a diagram on it as to where to position the wires and jumpers inside the cover, then you can change it from one to the other, and you also have to change the plug on the cord to match the voltage, and of course, plug it into the proper receptacle.

Here is a link to NEMA plug /receptacle configurations for various amperages and voltages.

Do you have an electrician / handyman friend who might be able to help you out? Sounds like you're a little bit out of your comfort zone.

Lol, yeah I was trying to do some research... normally I'm pretty good with electronics/soldering that type of thing... But I just may have to have my dad help me. Also I live in a condo with a 1 car garage with 2 outlets, so my "upgrade" may have to wait a couple of years. Thanks Guys!
