Hi all,

First post. I am looking at installing a natural gas Reznor unit heater (60k) in my garage. The ceiling height is 9.5ft from the slab. Is there an ideal height to hang this heater from the ceiling or are there any recommendations? Also, can I hang using chain rather than threaded rod?

Thanks.

Do you have the installation manual? With a 9.5 ceiling the heater might be at eye level when installed? Most will have 3/8" threaded holes for allthread rods for installation. What size is the garage? I wouldn't use chains.

Look up the install manual for yours, it will give a clearance from top, the one I loocked up could be as close as 1", The manual also has a table that shows "heat throw" how far out it will "throw" to floor level etc., cool info.

I've hung several Reznors and I wouldn't even use threaded rod- it will wiggle too much once installed. Use perforated angle iron (1.5"?) with diagonals to reinforce it from wobbling. Perf angle is expensive- if you have to buy it try a garage door guy, he'll likely sell it much cheaper than HD or other. Horizontal stack with fan? Make sure pipe runs downhill, not uphill like you'd think.

Good luck!

Hang it as high as you can. Read the instalation manual.
