I FINALLY got someone to quote me on a heater for my garage. I'm looking at a 75K unit for my garage (about 28x36 - 14 ft ceiling - well insulated - 3 single insulated garage doors and two windows).

I was quoted $2100. I have gas and electric where it is going. I'd do it myself, but I don't really know anyone close to me that can help me out and it seems difficult for me to try alone. I'm not sure what a vertical vent kit is worth and going through brick, but the price seems a bit high to me - looking for opinions.

Might want to check with your insurance. I have seen some posts that certain insurance mandate a professional install. Mine didn't but wanted a copy of permits and approvals.

I don't know how I install the heater 14 feet up by myself - hence my installed quote. Right now I have a 250 lb washing machine I need to put on a 15" pedestal and can't figure out how to get that on alone either. Being new in town ***** - no nearby friends with muscle.

What model Reznor? They have several at 75k at a wide range of prices, depending on model/features.

That's about the right price. The installer probably has some markup of their own on it.

You're probably looking at $800-900 for the installation part of the total, which seems a bit high IMO with the existing gas and electric feeds.

I thought it was a "bit" high. Electric is right there, the gas line is within 6 feet but not 'live' yet. I need to have the heater installed before they will set the meter. For a 1/2 day install (what he said anyway), it's some good $/hr.

I had my 60K Hot Dawg heater installed by the HVAC company I bought it from. I had the local gas company run natural gas from the street to the back side of the garage and they installed a meter. I had run electrical power for the heater and had the end of the wire in a metal electrical box all set to go. The HVAC company got the permit, they hung the heater from the ceiling, they ran the gas from the meter into the garage, they connected up the gas and the wiring and installed a digital thermostat, and they vented it outside. As I recall it was a little over $1,800 for everything, including tax.

Your heater is a little larger, and the venting may be a bit different, so $2,100 seems like it is in the ballpark and terribly over priced. Don't forget there is most likely a permit that needs to be drawn and there is a charge for that too. Some municipalities may not require a permit, you will need to check to be sure.

I don't know if the city inspector came by to check the installation when it was finished, I wasn't here all the time it was being installed so I don't know for sure. I assume he did, but I don't know that for a fact.

You can run a 3" pipe up to a 75k heater according to my manual

You need to quit quoting what's applicable to your Modine as if it's applicable to every other heater based on its size.

Every heater has its own venting specs.
