Reznor Side Venting help needed...

Hey All. I have a Reznor UPAP 60 that I want to side vent. All the documentation and installation instructions indicate a 3 foot clearance from any overhang, like eaves. They assume the vent cap will remain under the overhang. With an 8 foot ceiling the vent will be 5 feet above grade. That is a hazard to me.

I cannot get any info from distributor on horizontal venting minimum clearances if I go beyond the overhang. I've looked at modine and Lennox and they are all somewhere in the area of 12 min clearance, and extending beyond the overhang by 8 inch or so.

My inspector will not pass this unless there is accompanying documentation, but it does not exist. And I cannot believe that this cannot be side vented as the modine or lennox are.

The funny thing is when mounting the unit heater the min clearance for the top of the unit heater is 1 inch. So you would be dropping the venting 3 feet inside the garage before you even go outside; does not make sense to me.
Can anyone help here?

Hi. I have a reznor too and found a resource that may help.

I assume you mean a UDAP vs UPAP.

Here is a link to the page where you will find the UDAP 60 pdf file.

Check Table 4.1. It seems to agree that you don't need a lot of space.

Hope this helps. If it isn't the right one, the site may help you search.

Cheers,

Mike
