I've got a line on a UDAP-60 brand new with a LP conversion kit for less than $900 including tax and delivery. Does that sound reasonable to those of you with knowledge of these?

Also, this is for a 30 x 40 x 10 pole building with 3/4" Styrofoam insulation, insulated doors and windows as well. What's the consensus on this size unit (60k) heating this building in middle Tennessee?

I'd like it to heat up in fairly short order as I cant use the shop everyday.

I've got the same heater that I bought about 5 years ago and paid about the same amount, so I'd say you did ok. As far as heating your shop, it'll depend on how cold it gets, my shop is about the same dimensions, although masonry, and I wish I had the 75,000 BTU unit.

youre a little small on the size of heater you re suggesting using in that size shop.
You probably don't need as much of a heater as someone in the more northern states, (like me) sure/// but I think you need more than 60K.... you are talking 60K input BTU right? That will only be 48K output/ not enough, the 75K (60K output) would be better.

I got a sterling 75K BTU garage heater and it only seems to heat my garage up to about 60 degrees when its 30 degrees outside. I am wondering why I go through a 100 lbs propane tank in 4 days.

It is a detached garage with 1-1/2 insulation top to bottom, 11 foot ceilings and is 30x33

I also use a 5Kw electric heater and it doesn't want to get up past 60 degrees in there.

My sterling unit doesn't seem to be running at full potential, any input to get that running properly and get my garage warmer than 60 degrees?

I installed a Rezner last year in my 24 x 30 garage (10' H )after my old furnace with pilot light increased it usage to 7 x 100 lbs propane tanks in 2014 in one winter and that was only turning it on when i went in at night.Internal weer cracked and the heat was going out the stack.
I actually had replaced the furnace with a Mr Heater -but when the heating tech. showed up to inspect the unit-by using his flow meter the regulator could not be adjusted enough to meet the spec of a proper burn rate so the unit would never be running efficiently.
Returned that unit bought the Reznor -i installed it and had it ready to go for the tech to set flow rate again properly and tag the unit to show its been inspected .
We could not get the unit to run with a programmable thermostat though -a non programmable digital unit works well.
Propane consumption has been good-mild winter so far so 1 tank in 2 months.

For mild climate in TN, that 60K Btu heater might be adequate . . .
. . . . IF . . . you have well-insulated and tight building.

However, if you have slider doors, air gaps, leaks, etc. and poor insulation then it might struggle in 30x40 building.

Recommend you improve insulation levels.

Something ain't right... is there a chance a natural gas orifice was used in the gas train?

I have a 70k kerosene torpedo that will absolutely overheat my uninsulated detached approximately 23'x20' garage in under an hour in 30 degree weather or even less. Once it gets up to temp, I can shut the torpedo down and (2) regular old round wick kero heaters keep it very comfortable.

Building is tight. Insulated overhead and man doors, thermopane windows. All the foil faced exterior soild insulation sheets had the seams tapped with aluminum hvac tape.
