So Dilemma

I have a lean to and I park the bobcat and/or car into it. I am going to be wiring an outlet / switch / two lights, so I can see in the dark.

Now..

I am thinking of wiring a motion circuit to have them turn on when I enter it, however I don’t like the motion circuit idea because if an animal comes in it will flip it on, so that’s why I was going to wire a switch to disable the motion sensor.

I got too thinking, Is there any product that I could wire in directly for a RF remote and not use a motion sensor. I know I could jerry rig a RF remote but I wonder if there is a hardwire solution.

Thanks!

Have a look at this web site....I'm not saying buy from them...but they have a good selection of stuff.

http://www.smarthome.com/_/index.aspx

I'm actually looking for something similar....

You have two basic types of remotes...RF and wired. The wired type sends signals over the house wiring...the RF...is well...RF. Some use a combination of both. The above site actually has a good summary of each type.

Happy reading.

I have a motion sensor switch for my overhead lights in my workshop. I wouldn't have it any other way. They stay on for 5 minutes and then go off if no more motion goes on.

Position the motion detector such that its field is high enough off the ground that small animals won't trigger it

Or use a garage door trip light for the same effect positioned at 4 ft high

Look at the Insteon products at Smarthome. I use several of the RF and wired switches and outlets. They are great.

Buy them on Amazon though. Same products but cheaper.

I have been saying I would install a Hubbell H-MOSS system in my garage for years, have all the parts & they are most likely obsolete by now...

Do you add a device in line to control the lights with a remote? Can they be hardwired?

I have been looking for simular setup, but adding 3 zones in my garage.

A curbside garage door opener will give you a remote lights on and off ability.

As others have pointed out, this application is ideally suited to various Insteon products, such as:

See above. The load(s) can be run off either a wallswitch/keypad, or an "In-LineLinc" module which gets hidden away. These devices in turn can be controlled by other wallswitches/keypads, and or by various sensors (dusk/dawn, motion, etc.), and/or by wireless remote controllers, or nearly any combination you might desire. If you throw a central controller, such as:

into the act, then you can also implement more sophisticated forms of "IF-THEN-ELSE" logic.

I have been looking for simular setup, but adding 3 zones in my garage.

As the saying goes, "Easy Peasy."
