Rheem Error code T903

My heat pump had error code 903_0 and Google failed to come up with much This post is mostly for the next person doing a Google search at the end will be model names and numbers.

My unit shut down with this code. I power it down for the two minutes required for the board the reset the error. It tried but failed with the same code. I found the troubleshooting chart for this code. It asked if the choke coil looked burned if so replace. See attached photos to my eye it looks a little dark but not burned to my untrained eye. The old choke did not show continuity to it case and read 4 Ohms across the coil. It turns out the parts were still under warranty I had a dealer replace the coil and the unit is now running again.

Note the unit has about 15,000 hours of run time when the part failed.
My heat pump has a variable speed compressor.

I know it's been over a year since you shared this post, but I wanted to say thank you! I have the same make and model as you, and I was told by our AC technician that the choke (46-105466-02) was on backorder by Rheem for 3-6 weeks. 3-6 weeks in FL, in August is brutal. After about 8 days, my brother came across your post and suggested we try the 46-105466-03. I couldn't find anywhere that showed the 03 being a replacement part, but we put it in. It's been a week now, and it's working great! So, again, thank you!

I am glad you found my post helpful and thank you for replying.

I did add heat sink compound between the choke and the mounting plate thinking it should transfer heat out of the choke and extend its life. Note you want white nonconductive compound not silver compound as it may conduct electricity.
