Hi,

I am clearing out some of my tools and I have a set of RHFT ratchets. 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2".

Can anyone tell me if these are anything special or just old ratchets.

Thanks, I will post pics in a minute.

The RHFT with the thumbweel on the bottom are my favorite Craftsman ratchets. They need to work good though as rebuild kits are hard to find. $10 to $20 each seems to be an average price. If they are in really nice shape may go higher.

Armstrong and Napa still sell rebuild kits. They are great ratchets though, dual pawl and 90+ clicks. They should only need a good cleaning and some fresh grease. Be wary if you take them apart there are two ball bearings and a spring in there (very tiny bearings on the 1/4").

I think they are some of the best ratchets ever made by anybody. Been using mine since the 1970s, Never seen one break from normal use.

Unfortunately my 1/4 drive ratchet walked off, but another GJ member has one he's parting with.

About 6-8 months ago I sold a 1/4" RHFT Craftsman Ratchet on ebay. It sold for $150. It was really nice but I was still shocked by that one. I have never seen one sell for that much since but it may be worth more than you think.

They're complete ****. I'll give you $20 for the pair to hold my shop door open.

Please?

BTW $150 for a 1/4 ain't happening - these go for $20-30 each for 3/8 and 1/2". I will buy them from you if interested, I'm trying to complete a set.

I bought a really nice 1/2 RHFT for $5 at a pawn shop. Maybe I just got lucky, but it is a really good ratchet, and I would love to have the 3/8 and 1/4 sizes.

I've had several offers to buy and not really sure what to ask. These ratchets are in very good condition with little use on them.

I have posted an add in the wanted section for a couple of specific snap on ratchets. I would welcome trades and depending on the deal I can add or accept cash via pay pal.

I have lots of positive feedback on www.rctech.net under the same username.

Looking for TL72 & FC72 in good condition. Not looking to pay retail. I might be interested in a f80 also.

According to the date codes on those ratchets they're no more than 14 years old. $100 for them is way out of line IMO.

If I were you I'd put them on eBay. You'll likely get your price.

$100...? Your looking at like $45-$50 on this forum, if your lucky. Sorry!

Thanks for the info, if they don't sell I will adjust or keep. I asked the value on this forum and I got a range of $20 - $30 each so I said $30 ea x 3 = $90 + $10 for shipping and PayPal fees

Fair offers are always welcome via pm

You need to put them on eBay as you will have no problem whatsoever getting at least $85 for them. I would not be surprised if you get more than $100 for them. They go for big money on eBay but like said above people here pay more reasonable prices for them.

One more respectful opinion, if you're interested.

$10, $15, & $20 each, by size +shipping, would not be unreasonable, maybe a little more for really nice ones. The last nice 1/2" Craftsman I picked up at the flea market was $12; I recently fished a very nice 1/2" KD branded version out of the 'bay for $12, and a long handled Rigid model for $24 a few days later.

I don't completely agree with SC - that "you will have no problem whatsoever getting at least $85 for them.... While it is possible - a set of three just sold for $89 + ship - there are plenty of singles or some grouped and/or with other tools that sold for far less, or didn't even get a starting bid at $10-$15. To be blunt, fleabay is an absolute crapshoot for stuff like this. What you need to get the astronomical prices that an odd handful of ratchets have reached - two very deep pockets with no patience - is completely out of your control. A few more quick examples: the allegedly "rare" Craftsman speeder ratchet that far-too-frequently hits triple digits ($150+ at times) cost me $41 + ship from the 'bay (I'm a cheap sob and nobody else was apparently watching, and I still think I paid more than I should've, but I finally lost patience...), and the early Vlchek ratchet I just won for $20 + ship that better fits a "rare" description and has typically hit high double digits in the past. Those are a couple of seriously disappointed sellers, IF they were expecting to get the high bids similar ratchets have sold for in the past.

And if you do go the fleabay route, don't forget to subtract the listing fees, the final value fees, the fleecepal fees, and whatever other fees are tacked on from your final bid. How are those odds of getting at least $85 looking now...

No disrespect intended to SC or anyone else, but using some of the higher bids on fleabay is not necessarily the best determinant of "value". You very well could clear $85 or more by lucking into the right combination of bidders; then again, don't be surprised if/when your results fall well short - you're shootin' craps after all...

What really matters is what are the ratchets worth to you. If they're worth $80 to you to keep, great! If you can't get $85 to sell them, then you still have a great set of ratchets to use (IMHO one of the best designs made), and what others (including me) consider their value really doesn't matter.

And if you're still not sure what they're really worth to you, then start going thru the 2,500 completed listings for "Craftsman ratchet" to determine what the average selling price was for RHFT models, and note the ones that didn't get a starting bid or reach reserve. That'll give you a better idea of average "value" than a handful of the higher sellers.
