RHFT Kit Advise

I have this 1/2 Craftsman RHFT that needs a kit. Sears does actually still sells this kit, but with shipping it's $20 and I am trying to avoid that since I can pick up another RHFT for probably less than that. Also, Cripe sells a New 1/2" KD RHFT for $21 shipped here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/KD-Tools-73...341?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ad687f2a5

I took the ratchet to my 3 local Sears stores and they all basically wanted to exchange a beat up nasty standard raised panel 1/2 for my RHFT. One store I might have been able to talk them into a FT/low profile exchange, but I hate those handles and it just doesn't seem right to forfeit a classic USA ratchet for any of Sears current offerings.

At each store I inquired if there might be a kit available in the PMT's shop and only one store would even look, ..oddly enough, the one "sears hardware" that is closing. I mentioned that sears still sells the kit and asked if they could just order one and the answer was no, we can offer you this rebuild raised panel.

I'll probably have to break down and pay, but thought I would see if anyone had any suggestions or been in this situation.

Ask when the PMT works again....

Show up and ask him to repair the ratchet. They are usually pretty good about this

If all else fails, there are a few other places you can get them. There's always eBay, but I believe someone once had a post that cross referenced other ratchets that used the same kits and where you could get parts. I believe NAPA was one source and, at one time anyway, you could order of their site as well. I don't think it was $20 though. I'm almost sure you can do better than that on eBay too.

I've snapped up a couple repair kits for some of my favorite ratchets. For these, I think I have one in each drive size squirreled away. If you happen to find any in the future, snap them up while you can for a rainy day. I hope mine never break, or at this point, I hope no single drive size breaks more than once and exhausts my supply of spares.

Of course, if you own doubles of your favorite ratchets, or the Craftsman and the Easco version of the RHFT, that adds a whole other dimension to the sickness, but also provides extra backup. :lol_hitti

I don't mind turning one in. If all else fails, send me your broken kit and I will send you the guts out of one I have that works fine if you cover the postage (still will cost you like $5 in total for postage). I make them give me a fine tooth ratchet and never accept the raised pannel pear head POS when returning one with fine tooth. I suggest you do the same, but if you can't make that happen....I'll hook you up.

I DID NOT create any of this information, just copied it from previous posts, years ago......

Looking through the Napa catalog I saw they had the RHFT w/ spinner ratchet that Sears apparently dosent have kits for.

Here are the Napa part #'s for ratchets and kits,

1/4 drive ratchet NM-47, kit #10908

3/8 drive ratchet NB-42, kit #11908

1/2 drive ratchet NS-47, kit #12089

I have made a list of all the Round Head Fine Tooth(RHFT) ratchets with the knurled speeder on the bottom, and all the repair kits are interchangeable. I have tried a couple and they are the same. Some of the older craftsmans have a through post quick release design, and that is no longer in use, other wise kits are the same, still available from Sears, Danaher. Also some of the older Easco, K-D ratchets were non-quick release(NQR) and if you get a current rebuild then ratchet will now be quick release. I have seen rebuilds from K-D, Allen, Napa on line, if you cannot get a warranty from either Sears or Danaher. If there are other models that I don't have listed let me know, these ratchets have been in production for 40 years so there may be some odd balls out there. Also added a Ridgid, it is sold with a 960 roll groover to operate it, but is an Allen brand clone, and can be bought buy it self online or through Ridgid. Also another Ridgid sold with a 915 is a 1/2 long handle with a 90 degree bend on the end of the handle.

Allen 1/4 model# 10904, repair kit#10908
Armstrong 1/4 model#10-915, repair kit 10-963

K-D 1/4 model#711106, repair kit#10908
Master Mechanic model#T1060(NQR)
Napa 1/4 model# NHT NM-47, repair kit#10908

I had my local sears catalog store order mine,The customer service 1-800 # is a joke. they couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the sole. Whan I went in they showed a price on their computer of one penny(I think it's just so they can track it). I had them order 2 one for my craftsman, and one for my NAPA ratchet. I told them the one was for a non-craftsman ratchet and offered to pay list price which was about 6 or 7 bucks, but they said nope, it's just a penny.

Funny that you are posting this. I am going through almost the exact same situation with a 1/4" Craftsman 43178 RHFT. I went to the local Sears today and was told a similar story; No repair kits are available for this ratchet any more. I told them that the kits were available online through Sears parts, but they told me it was almost like a separate company, and they couldn't get any of the kits delivered to the store.

43187 and 43178 are essentially the same ratchet, just different production years. They just changed the model number after awhile I think.
