Ribbed Steel Ceiling - Garage Door Supports

I am getting ready to install ribbed steel panels for my ceiling in a 30x50 shop with 10' ceilings. The panels will be installed length wise and my trusses are 2' OC. I have most of the project worked out in my head and have read through a few threads on here about using this material.

Here is one question that I have not seen asked or answered. Maybe someone can help me out.

My garage door is on the 30' end; meaning that the support brackets will need to be temporarily taken down and reinstalled. The brackets run perpendicular to the steel ribs. What have people done when they reinstalled the brackets? do you have to notch the steel in location of the brackets? I am assuming that you would run into problems just re-fastening them over the steel ribs?

Use angle iron to clear the ridge then attach the bracket to the new angle iron.

you could use washers to fill the space, just make sure to use long enough lags to securely fasten the angle

Thanks for the ideas. Was actually thinking of using 3/4” long pieces of rides conduit as spacers to clear the ridges and run appropriate length lag screws through them.

I use 1/2” pvc conduit cut into 1” long pieces, then use longer lags. Important to measure exact location so the track hanger will go back exactly.

I notched the ribs. Took some time and careful measurements but the finished product looks good.

Take a hole saw with the ID approx the width of your angle. Drill thru some 3/4 plywood (preferably from both sides to prevent tear out).
Remove the slug & wrap around the side with 3/4" electrical tape of your choice of color.
You now have a color matched spacer made with a 1/4" hole for your lag pre drilled thru the center.

2x4 above ceiling between trusses. Drill 3/4 hole in ceiling. install a piece of 3/4 emt with one bolt in door track and two bolt thru 2x4 above ceiling. did mine ten years ago this way and is a much cleaner install.

Great idea too. Round hole is definitely the way to go because of the clean hole and wood or pipe going through it.

Paint 2x6 material to match ceiling. Put pieces in low areas with lags then lag pre punch to 2x material. Pre punch Will be supported properly. Remember you are mounting the largest and heaviest moveable item at your place. Trying to be cute is not your friend in the long run. Choose accordingly.
