Could you be confusing ridge cap with ridge vent?
Without a ridge cap your roof would certainly leak with a metal roof.

There are about three different ridge vents available, and "ridge cap" is simply the roof material bent into an angle to match your roof pitch, available in 2 or 3 widths.
Many folks get - I forget now what you call it - But like very coarse like Scotch Brite grill scrubber filler strips under them, to allow filtered venting. Marc
