I picked up this Ridgid 4x6 bandsaw today for chump change, but the chump might just be me. The model # is 945-1458U. I've exhausted my Google-fu looking for info on it and it seems that everyone else with one has also.

The problem with it is the worm gear has three broken teeth and I can't find a replacement with any interweb searches. It's a Browning gear, stamped BWG 12-20-1, or possibly 1/2-20-1.

I'm pretty sure that Emerson made these and Browning Gear is part of Emerson. They don't appear to make this gear any longer. I'd like to find one as this saw is cast, other than the stand it's on. It isn't an offshore cheapie.

Anyone have a good gear vendor I might call on Monday to try to find a replacement?

Assuming 12 pitch 20 tooth gear. Perhaps Motion Industries can source one.

Sorry, but I'll have to disagree with it being an import. I've passed on buying several of those over the years.

These were made by Emerson in the 70s.

Ok, well if that's the case, they must have used that model to design the knock offs. I'd still ask over on the Yahoo group to see if the gears available for the imports have the same specs as yours.

I understand it happens with imported saws. It broke on mine because the saw fell out of a tractor bucket when it was being unloaded from a pickup bed. The weight of the saw landed on the drive pulley that the worm is attached to, which then was forced against the teeth on the worm gear and the teeth broke. It was pure negligence on my part. The saw ran when I picked it up.

Even if it was an import it isn't one of the Rong Fu saws sold under multiple brands. The gear isn't compatible with any I've seen in the imports. I've exhausted looking at imports for a parts source, I've looked at the info on the yahoo group, and any info available on the Ridgid forum.

There's just nothing out on the web for this model of saw other than people looking for manuals or parts sources.

I do appreciate the tips on where to look!

Did you get it measured and drawn? Did you contact the local gear places? It looks like there are three of them in Colorado. Looking at their websites it should be easy to get a gear that works.

It takes effort on your part. Post up the specs and maybe somebody will find it for you.

Understood. All that I asked for was ideas for a place to start. I didn't ask anyone to find the gear for me and had measurements long before starting this thread.

I also have a job during the week, so I can't drop what pays my bills to look for a personal item or document word for word on this thread what steps have been taken just to please the masses. ;)

A few phone calls during lunch (starting with a Browning distributor) eventually led to a Boston Gear tech support number and they were able to cross reference the Browning part number to a Boston part number, BG-1050A. Amazon, of all places, has the gear and it's already on it's way.

Boston no longer makes worm gears, as was my original suspicion.

Thanks all for the links and suggestions. I know more about gears and the channels to get them than I did when this started.

CSP, I hope you received my reply to your PM.
I will add this info here just in case or to help others.
As you noticed your RIDIG horizontal band saw is very similar to my Craftsman 113.229650 horizontal band saw.
I hope this information helps you find your gear assembly.

I did get the PM, thanks. There were a couple diagrams online that I found using your model number which were helpful.

I did find a gear on Amazon. It needed a keyway broached and had to drill/tap a setscrew hole to make it work but that was easy.
I'm working on replacing bearings and making sure that everything is aligned correctly.

Probably going to replace the motor as well for a little more power.
