They are very good tools, with long lasting batteries but their registration and free battery program are lacking to the point of being fraudulent in my opinion.

You'll have 90 days to send in the receipt and serial number to be enrolled in the program. They will "not receive" your paperwork. When you eventually contact them, they will tell you to resend everything. Again they will not receive anything. Eventually the time runs out.

I have purchased many tools from them because they are good tools and I have only ever had one tool actually get registered. I have never had success registering a cordless tool which is all kind of frustrating because the batteries are so expensive.

I'll still buy Rigid tools when I have a need but I probably won't bother with the registration any more...

I have a Ridgid cordless drill and impact driver, but not the brushless. It has been really good and I have had them 2-3 years. I also have a couple of their corded saws and they have been good too.

They do make it a pain to register, but so far I have got the registration on everything I have submitted. You have to do each part separately, each tool, each battery, the charger, etc. Also, if you have them replace something you have 90 days to re-register the new serial number; the old registration does not carry through to the new item. I have had a couple of times when I did not get the confirmation back in a reasonable amount of time, like 8-9 weeks, so I mark may calendar and at about 80 days I send them an email and tell them I am going to return the tool to the store under the 90 day return policy if I don't get my registration before the 90 day required period and so far that has worked. I figure if they aren't going to get the warranty registration back in time, I will swap the tools every 90 days until the live up to their end of the deal.

I've always thought that the free battery replacement program sounded too good to be true since I've never had a cordless tool itself fail, it's just that when the batteries need replaced the cost of new batteries is a large percentage of the cost of a whole new kit. So free replacement batteries would be a huge benefit.

I preach to my wife all the time that things that sound too good to be true always have a hidden catch. I've read several times of complaints like yours about the Ridgid battery program, so I guess that's the hidden catch in this case.

It's a shame that most advertising these days is deceptive in one way or another. You have to constantly be looking at the fine print to figure out how they are planning to screw you.

I bought a set just like that but not brushless about three years ago. I registered them with no problem and have used them weekly ever since. I've had no issues with them and they are well made. BTW, I'm told that they and Milwaukee are made by the same manufacturer. Milwaukee and Ridgid are exclusively carried by Home Depot. An added benefit for me was that that the L-Ion batteries worked with my older set of Ridgid tools which were not L-Ion and I couldn't find another manufacturer's set of tools that would do that. I'm happy so far but I haven't had to test their warranty yet.

I don't have the brushless, but I bought my rigid drill/driver last year after my 19.2 craftsman drill died(5 years old). I have not been very impressed with them. For DIY work around the house, they'd probably be adequate, but under heavy and constant use I find them lacking.

Just to provide some background into what I'm doing/experiencing. I do alot of metal work and I find during the hot summer days the batteries overheat to the point where the unit shuts down until the batteries cool off on a regular basis. I rotate a few batteries in the freezer for 10 minutes at a time so I'm not delayed too much. The problem does persist in the winter, but not nearly as common as summer. I also think the torque is pretty gutless.

I'm not trying to bash on the system, just sharing my experiences. I think it's an example of getting what you pay for. I'll be changing to a new system probably after the new year(Milwaukee or Dewalt).

I have a set of those Ridgid tools, I really like them, but mine are older and are not the brushless ones. I have heard the brushless models are more powerful and draw less power from the batteries so they last longer between charges. I have considered buying a set of the brushless ones, but I was hoping someone already had a set and could tell me if there is a big difference between these new ones and the older ones.

I also have the older set and i like them alot better than the dewalt **** they replaced. No issues with battery life didnt bother trying to register for the battery issue as I heard it was a pain but the tools are very powerful for their size. No problem driving mulitple deck or lag screws.

I have quite a few of the older tools through the gen 4 and have not had any issues with them at all.

I don't understand the issue with the registration you can do it right on the website. As I posted in another thread I have had a charger and one of the impact drivers repaired with no issues what so ever.

Honestly my favorite thing is that the new batteries work on all the older tools, so I have been able to pick up old tools (Lion) for pennies on the dollar and use the new batteries on them.

edited to add.

If you watch HD's website you can find deals like this quite often.

2 4.0 batteries for $99.

They've slowly been upgrading the bulk of their line to the gen5x brushless variety. I'm sure the impact wrench will follow suit.

So far they've got a brushless hammer drill, drill driver, impact driver, circular saw, angle grinder, palm router, reciprocating saw, 7" miter saw; and I believe a few others that I can't recall off the top of my head at the moment.

The vacuum might be brushless too... I forget...

I just bought the angle grinder and will let you know later this weekend. I plan on using quite a bit tomorrow.

They don't make the warrenty easy, but I've had good luck with it in the past year. You just have to get on the phone and push some, last time I was able to scan and email to complete and activate right away.

I've also have replaced a few batteries, you have to reregister.

Good cordless power tools. Impact driver, drill, hammer drill, circular saw, recip saw. Register online = no problem. All brands of batteries will eventually fail so lifetime service agreement on batteries make a lot of sense especially since they fit the older 18V power tools

Kinda surprised kobalt is ahead of the game in impact wrench department and its brushless... even better it rates at 650 lbs/ft. I just wish ridgid could have designed right away

I have this set. Registration was easy. You need the HD receipt and will input key things off it. Login to track if there are any issues with the registration. Every now and then they want copies of the receipt to be sent in. No big deal. Batteries that come with a tool set are covered by the LSA. If you get a battery replaced, you have to register the new battery. I'm not sure why this seems so difficult to people. I bought the non brushless prior to the brushless and there was a noticeable difference. Can't explain it right now but I am very happy. The 4amphr batteries are heavy so if you are going to be screwing overhead regularly, getting the smaller battery would be worth it. Charger charges battery quickly. I sold on ridgid. Im not a contractor though, just a picky homeowner.
