Looking at buying a Ridgid DP1550 at Home Depot. Need it for the home shop, drilling metal, and occasionally wood. Anyone have any experience with this drill press, good or bad?

actually just bought that drill press with the 20% off sale this past week. I have only used it for wood thus far but it seems like a nice sturdy and surprisingly accurate unit. the depth gauge/lock are dead on! Mine runs quietly with no vibrations and absolutely no chuck wobble.

I have my doubts that it'd stand up too long in a pro setting but seeing as you mentioned it was for a home shop (as mine is), I'm sure it'll last many years as long as it's limits aren't exceeded.

there are a few reviews on it on HD's website

Just a heads up on this drill press

Oshawa Ontario Home Depot has it on sale for only $249 as well as other Ridgid stationary tools. It looks like they may be getting out of the Ridgid line

And to boot, I asked them if I could get the cheaper price on the one I bought about 2 months ago so they gave me a credit back on my account for the difference of $70

A good drill press at an even better price

I have the same drill press for over a year now and have had no issues so far. Used extensively for steel work and occasional wood working. Very smooth and quiet. Wish the table was a bit bigger.
