Hello All,
I recently outfitted my run of the mill big box store (home depot) Ridgid Drill Press with a Rouge Fab 4/1 speed reduction kit.
The install is not bad and it greatly reduces the rpm's, which will help to combat wrecking large dia drill bits when working with metal.
My install required buying a belt from amazon for the mid pulleys, as the one provided with kit was to small. Other than that you just have to trim out the cover for belt clearance. I also made a simple hand guard to keep safe of the large pulley / belt if I reach up to far / fast.
Worth the $ imo.

I have used DC motors from inexpensive tread-mills I found in Craigslist. The speed control from the treadmill can be used change motor speed.
Treadmill DC motors, typically have lots of torque. To get my weld positioner to run slow enough, I made a new tone-wheel with double the number of trigger points. The computer registered a higher speed and reduce the motor output by half.

Nice addition. I frankly can't believe a company would provide something like that without properly designed guarding. Talk about a law suite waiting to happen :twak:
