So I just picked up a used ridgid 18v reciprocating saw(i think the x3). I found it for a good deal and it goes with my drill and impact driver which I bought in december. It has the 1.5ah battery. When I use the reciprocating saw It seems to overheat the battery? The battery doesn't feel hot, only slightly warm in the areas not covered in rubbered. After about 3 minutes of mostly cutting, the battery just quits working. Then it will work about 10 minutes later.

Is the battery overheating? Is it too small for the tool? Or is this a problem with the tool? While its cutting it works great but its almost useless because it just stops working.

Either way I have to go buy a corded model which was what I was trying to do to finish the job.

Thanks in advance for the help.

It does sound like the thermal regulation switch in the battery is being triggered. It's doing it with all of your batteries, right? Not just the one?

If it's only doing it with the battery that came with it, you know why you got such a good deal.

The saw itself did not come with any batteries I bought it bare tool. And I have 2 of the 1.5ah battery pack and it does it with both. But the question is is the saw too big of a tool for the batteries to run? Or is it a problem with the saw itself?

It's hard to tell... It could be a number of issues unfortunately. If possible, try a bigger batteryand see if you still get the issue. If so, it is likely the thermal cutoff.
